Kirra Hotel Redevelopment

Gold Coast

Client: Ridge Properties Pty Ltd

Year: 2013

The Kirra Hotel Redevelopment project was approached with one key idea in mind: to create a new local hub that embraces the idea of Kirra as a surfer’s mecca.

Encompassing a hotel, two large residential towers and an extensive retail development – the project has an emphasis on creating a local community hub that will become the focal point of the locale.

ML Design were appointed to the project due to our ability to deliver integrated design solutions that solve complex problems. Our key point of difference was that we truly captured the essence of the project and successfully transformed a previously under-utilised site into a local landmark.

Since the project is situated directly across from the world-famous Kirra Point surf break, we focused on re-vitalising the area while also ensuring the project would blend seamlessly into the idyllic beach landscape.

The main consideration ML Design took into account was usability. We needed to create a local hub that would boast active frontages, buzzing retail and privacy – while still maintaining our core focus of synchronising the project with the natural surrounds.

We also had the challenge of creating a local hub that promotes a sense of community and positioning it as a space where everyone – local or visiting – belongs.

ML Design effectively collaborated with our client to offer design strategies that captured the core essence of the Gold Coast. From our lightweight sub-tropical building elements to our lifestyle spaces – we created a vibrant community hub that has become a focal point on the coastline.

Our designs boasted four active frontages, and we moved the pub to the second floor to create a more enriching experience for visitors. Our design capability allowed us to create a development that is truly an extension of the natural landscape. This resulted in a go-to destination for the local area.
