Laguna Whitsundays is an ambitious masterplanned community designed to re-establish the location as a sought-after Queensland tourism destination.

The vision plan for the 3,000-hectare coastal site features a new international airport that will make the site accessible to a wider range of tourists. The site will also be directly linked to marine transport connecting it to the idyllic Whitsunday Islands.

ML Design’s concept master plan was strategically designed to expand Laguna’s attractions beyond golf and boating. Our masterplanning capabilities have allowed us to include the idea of a casino, theme park, beach lagoon alongside an innovative precinct dedicated to health, well-being and Chinese herbal medicine.

The original Laguna development was established in the 1980s and the site has been abandoned for the past decade. This has presented us with a unique set of challenges when it comes to re-vitalising the precinct.

In order to deliver a strategic outcome, we looked at how we could increase the appeal of the development through the attractions offered by the property.

To deliver a unique and strategic outcome for Fullshare, ML Design created a deeply developed vision plan for Laguna Resort. We focused our effort on creating a lavish tourist destination, and delivered an integrated design solution that would create a new sought-after destination.

We proposed to restore the Turtle Bay golf course to its former glory, while also establishing a new waterfront marine village that featured a range of hotel properties and additional recreational activities. Our plan also includes a submission to the Queensland government for a regional casino licence – increasing the attraction of Laguna to the international market.

The outcome: a vision plan that inspires a bold new Queensland holiday destination.
