Queens Wharf

Brisbane CBD

Client: Destination Brisbane Consortium

Year: 2016

Queens Wharf, currently one of the most significant refurbishment projects in Queensland, will deliver a world-class integrated resort destination in the heart of Brisbane CBD.

The scale of the Queens Wharf development is almost unheard of in Brisbane, and ML Design is proud to be leading the retail, heritage and adaptive re-use design team. We collaborated with a specialist Urban Design Panel in order to help bring the design to life while offering strategies to overcome complex design issues.

The final plan includes a massive three residential towers, five new premium hotels, a new department store – all alongside a seamless integration with the existing Treasury Casino. The signature ‘Arc’ building will also feature a Sky Deck with a number of recreational areas including bars and restaurants.

Our appointment to the project was based on our key point of difference: our knowledge and skills in revitalising heritage buildings. Our carefully detailed designs skilfully incorporate heritage facades with modern architecture to create a seamless final product.

Queens Wharf is centred around the combining of two worlds: an innovative world-class destination with existing heritage-listed buildings. This presented unique design challenges for our team to take into consideration. When dealing with over 30,000sqm of heritage buildings, our design team took careful considerations to ensure the existing buildings were subtly integrated with the rest of the modern design.

ML Design successfully created a design solution that inspires a unique juxtaposition between heritage buildings and modern architecture. By collaborating with the design team, we were able to create a powerful integrated design solution that incorporated various architectural elements while still balancing the sensitive heritage-listed facades. The end result will be a remarkable public space to live, work and play in what is set to be one of Queensland’s largest and most iconic developments.
