Royal Freemasons Aged Care

Kline Street, Ballarat, Victoria

Client: Royal Freemasons

Year: 2015

Currently under construction, the Royal Freemasons Aged-Care extension will be one of the first multi-story aged-care facilities in Victoria to be constructed using modular construction techniques. This innovative approach will add a further 56-bedrooms to the facility, to ensure they can continue helping the community.

By utilising this modern construction method, ML Design’s design and documentation works to create a facility that challenges the notion of contemporary retirement living in regional Victoria. The design solutions create a modern facility that residents can be proud of.

The ML Design team collaborated closely with both the developer and Royal Freemasons to truly understand the needs and sensitivities of their tenants and staff. This collaborative process resulted in strategic designs that successfully capture the warm, friendly and inviting feel they wanted to create for the precinct.

ML Design worked to create a facility the embodies the characteristics the client and developer wanted for the precinct, while still creating a contemporary and modern aged-care facility. The design team created a space that challenges the way the development industry thinks about retirement living, and delivered an inspired space that is warm, friendly, inviting and nurtures a sense of togetherness and community.

By approaching this project with modular construction methods, the aged-care facility can be completed quickly and efficiently without compromising on key design details that work to capture the vision for the extension. The steel frame is being manufactured in Melbourne and will be transported to another factory for cladding and glazing works. From there, it will be transported to site where fit out works will be completed to bring it all together.
